Runner Beans, and Peas, now in, Onions doing well, and Strawberries, ditto, but still no real growing Weather, the Sun, has deserted us, really can't remember it being such a bad Year. Tomatoes, and Cucumbers also in, but have my doubts about getting anything this Year. What is that saying, "Hope springs eternal in the Human Breast!" Awa tae mak ma denner. x

Nothing much doing in the Garden, everything is so behind, but am eating Lettuce, Peas, Radish, Strawberries, so not a bad haul, everything is in that is going in. A bigger Crop of Plums than usual. Will confirm this, when I have had a look round today. Slugs have eaten six Plants, the last three have gone in.

Tina, our son's courgettes have gone into overdrive - he's having to give them away! He has grown yellow ones. He has planted just two plants, and when we were there on Saturday, he must've had a dozen young courgettes growing away, and once inside his kitchen, he opened the fridge door and handed me one that is over 12" long. So, currently wondering what to do with it! Perhaps soup, or maybe, I have seen a recipe that uses grated courgette, salted to get rid of some of the liquid, then added to grated potato, and some Cheddar cheese, all bound together with egg(s), then fried into little patties - ha, looks good enough to eat!!

There is a nice Recipe on here Val, just been looking at it. I do not like the Yellow Courgettes, could it be sour Grapes? The Recipe, is for Chutney.

Tina, I used to make a lot of chutney in years gone by, but now we don't tend to eat it often, plus we have some still in the cupboard. Chutney is a great idea to use up a glut of veggies, if only we ate it more often... :-)

As you know Val, I love anything Vinegar, so will be making a certain Amount of Chutney, plus it is lovely to put in a small Hamper for each Member of the Family, funny, how nothing tastes like Mother makes.

Evening all. Picked our first runner bean yesterday and today we had a salad for lunch made with lettuce, carrot, beetroot and cucumber from our garden. Not sure how the tomatoes will fare this year. We keep getting such fluctuations in temperature. Next week we are forecast 28c!

Can I just say, am getting sick of eating Strawberries for Dessert, but keep reminding myself the Fruit is very good for you. Definitely not up to standard this Year, must be all the Rain, as have given them extra feeding. Carrots, very small, might improve if we get any Sun.Everything very slow, but you would expect that, with the Weather we have had.

No Carrots left some in Freezer, never frozen bigger Ones before, but these are 'Early Nantes', so not very big anyway. Took up a lettuce, and underneath three fat Slugs, with their own Houses, were enjoying the Life of Riley, or what amounts to that in the Mollusc World! Strawberries need tidying up, do not need any Runners this Year. Producing at the Moment are Runner Beans, Peas, planted More Lettuce, and Radish, the last lot probably, for the Year, but who knows, as it is 'AllYear Round'Lettuce, and is fantastic. Everthing coming on, Apple Tree, and Plums are laden. Not long for Onions who are getting their Brown Skins.Outside Tomatoes doing as well as can be expected, still plenty of Tatties in Bags. Only thing the is slow, is the Cucumbers, but they do like it warm, and it has not been very consistent here. Up to date, so awa to Bed, happy planting!

Had a search today, and all Plants are covered with Cucumbers, have had a lovely Marrow, fed me five Days, and there is another coming along nicely. Only think not doing well, are the Courgettes, very poor. Friend picked the Onions today, they are Whoppers, he's tied them up, and hung them to the Clothes Pole, should see me best part of the Winter, like last year, not bad for an Onion Set, containing red and white Bulbs. Got a nice lot of green Beans coming along, had some tonight with the last of the Marrow. Have a few nice Big Tomatoes, green as yet, plenty of small yellow Ones , Sungold, not much use iin a Sandwich, but very tasty. Awa to my Bed, love to all. Tina x

Picked my first 'Telegraph', Cucumber today, would never have grown it myself, as too big for me, but none of mine took, so got this as a Baby, no idea what itwas, she goes for bigger, as there are three of them. My Daughter, that is, everything is big, she was my smallest Baby too, at 8'2 picked a nice load of Sungold, they are just like little Sweeties, so worth growing, as they ripen first, are still producing when others are done. My Beans are having a rest, have picked them every Day, and enjoyed them, time to let some grow on. My Apples, are massive, and also the Plums are nearly ready.yum.

Tina, we will look forward to growing things next year - this year it has been our children who have grown things in their gardens. Son's courgettes have grown like a triffid - it's stalk has stretched across his drive and is thicker than most courgettes - I have never seen a plant grow like that, it's amazing. He said the secret was he had put manure at the bottom of his growboxes, and then topped with John Innes compost - plus his neighbour has regularly watered while he was away.
