Went all the way to Laval with the trailer in tow, an hour away! We went to get some roofing and discovered once at Bricoman why it was so cheap! It has closed down.....nothing on the website. Drove another eight miles to Bricodepot and found some floor tiles but the roofing was way too expensive!

Oh no Aly, what a nuisance. At least you got the floor tiles, so not entirely a wasted journey.

My idiot of a husband came home this afternoon after a short trip out to buy something he needed, and sheepishly informed me he thinks he's been caught by a mobile speed camera. This'll be the 3rd or 4th time he's been done for speeding in the past 10 years - clearly doesn't learn by his mistakes! He's not a boy racer, he just doesn't pay attention. I'm so annoyed I could throttle him. I made the decision not to pay out for hearing aids, because I felt I couldn't justify the expense on something that I could manage without, and he goes and throws money away simply through carelessness. Idiot.

Sue, maybe S can do a speed awareness course, saves the money, and perhaps he'll think again!

He's done one of those before, Val, and you still have to pay the money, you just avoid having the points on your licence. I'm just so disappointed in him, it's not just the fine, it'll also have an impact on his car insurance renewal next year.

I have one the same Sue! His is always due to speeding! Late last night we had notification of booking for Le Tertre Jaune from booking.com. It was for one night this Saturday! We had only just put Jaune with them and were waiting for them to send us the advert to check. They had failed to include our policy of minimum four nights and seven days notice of booking. The company does not allow a cancellation less than 48 hours before arrival. As the company is American we were able to phone them. They said they would find the person another place but if the price were higher we would pay the difference! We have told them it is their error and if it is not sorted by them at no cost to us we will remove our properties!

Stand firm, Aly. Their problem, they need to sort it, at no expense to you! Bl**dy cheek of them!

What a blooming cheek, Aly! These big firms think they can walk all over people, unless we actually stand up to them.

Had a call from the person who booked checking all was ok for his arrival ( no one has ever done this before), all in French so not easy. Phoned booking.com again and they called him whilst we were waiting so at least we know they will not just arrive tomorrow! Now waiting to see if the charge will be levied!

Not really a rant, more of a "Oh for goodness sake!" We're selling our Mum's bungalow. I am doing all the paperwork. I don't know if anyone else has gone through this, but apparently now there are a lot of forms that I didn't realise we had to go through. One of the papers is a sort of inventory - it even asks if there is a toothbrush holder !!!!! Anyway, after completing the 23 pages (!), and, despite being named as the contacted person, the solicitor still wanted all four Executors to sign to show their agreement. As you know, my sister has other worries at the moment (her husband's funeral is on Wednesday). However, having scanned the two signature pages, I sent them to all my siblings (Executors). (There were two forms, and therefore two signature sheets, for each Executor to sign) 1st brother signed and returned them. Great. 2nd brother has no computer at the moment, so I asked his daughter to print them off for him to sign. They met up, and then sent the papers on to me. He had signed just one ! They had to go through the whole process again. My sister said she didn't need to sign them. I waited, hoping she'd see it differently. Eventually, I sent a text to her daughter and asked for her assistance. She sent them on email. However, I phoned and asked the solicitor and he agreed that was okay. I didn't think I was asking too much....

When my dad died we signed up for the government 'tell us once' scheme! It did not work and we had to inform all the different departments. A difficult time for you.

Dealing with all the necessary admin and paperwork stuff after a relative dies is a complete nightmare. You have my sympathies.

Thanks, girls, we did the "Tell us Once" and it did work - mostly. This is a form we have to fill in for the new occupier/owner, apparently. Very difficult being asked things like, where is the water meter. Firstly we didn't know there was one, yet we've found statements of water used. Secondly none of us have ever lived there, so some questions are difficult to answer. Hopefully, if the sale goes through, that'll be closer to the end of all the paperwork!

It doesn't end, does it. Despite doing the "Tell us once", we've had a letter from DWP. Phoned them and explained that having told them, this should be unnecessary - and their excuse? Oh, there was a glitch!! Sometimes the relevant department doesn't complete their task in forwarding this information. Oh really? What a surprise! Sorry for being so tongue-in-cheek, but why can't people just Do. Their. Job. Also, the letting agents, without informing us, put the energy bill with another company. That company decided to send a bill to the empty property - no monthly information from them - for the energy used since the property was vacated. As no-one lives there, and the selling agent (who was visiting occasionally) put all paperwork on the mantelpiece, it wasn't found amongst all the advertising blurb. Then a letter arrived from a debt collector, adding more to the amount (of course). The letting agent have told us that is what they always do, putting another energy company in place - yeah? And how would we know that? The energy company also didn't ask the letting agents who to send the bill to.... mind-boggling. So, yesterday, spoke to the energy company for 20 minutes (!) trying to get across the problems that have occurred, explaining they were now dealing with Executors and thought we'd sorted it. Erm, no. I received an email that gave the property address as mine!!! I live over 100 miles from the property, and they assumed we were the owners of the empty property. Don't these people listen? Oh, we shall be so glad when this is finally sorted...
