Morning all, a beautiful Morning here, Blue Sky, little soft Powder Puff Clouds, doubt it will last. Who remembers the Powder Puff?, an essential part of a young Lady's Toilette, Clouds of choking Powder, Father, used to say, putting on the War Paint, and suppose it was in those Days, as your aim in Life, was to meet someone that you would Love, and 'settle down', to have as many Children as the good Lord saw fit, Dinner on the Table, as soon as your OH returned from his daily Toil, he sits with Feet up reading Paper, etc, your daily Toil continues till you drop exhausted, into Bed. Where did that come from? Don't know, but it was true. Have now got to sieve through what I could not make my Mind up about, whether to put back into the Cupboard, or send to the Charity Shop, there are some Things you will never use again, but hold so many Memories, you can't think of anyone else owning them. Hoping to hear some good News , Iris, take care everyone, might be back, depends if I flag, after my Visitors. That must be the same as my Light Val, it is great! Bye the noo, Tina x

Morning! Yes, Tina, I remember the powder puff - my sister is six years older than me, and when I was aged 11, I remember watching her getting ready to go out in the evening, and all the make-up palaver. Then we had the Stratton compact (the powder puff was in a way replaced with the compact). My neighbour in France collects these compacts - she has several hundred !! Your recollection of the daily strife was very much in my home - my Mum worked in a clothing factory, sewing. She was an absolute whizz at any sewing that she faced. My Dad would come home from work (not forgetting that Mum had also worked all day), and sit down with the paper, while Mum cooked dinner for all of us - that is us five children and Grandma. Mum did all the home decorating, and the gardening, but she also passed on her amazing knowledge, all of us children going on to forge careers. Her dedication and persistence and continuity has always amazed me. No complaints. Ever. Forecast for a rainy day today, so this may be the time to start on my Very Hungry Caterpillar wall-hangings (I have three to make for various families with little children). Here is a link to the picture of it. I'm walking on air at the moment - I have just had a visit from my chiropodist! Have a good day everyone, x

Afternoon folks. I'm signing in during a monsoon and, guess what, I've had problems with blocked drainage pipes again. I took legal advice yesterday (under an add-on legal protection to my house insurance cover) and have composed a "letter of intent" to make a "serious nuisance" claim against my neighbour for failing to keep the ditch clear. Luckily our son did a bit of clearance by pushing a shovel under the wire fence on our boundary and into the ditch a couple of days ago. He managed to scoop up lots of debris and throw it into the neighbour's field. He also shifted some large stones which had slipped down the bank of the ditch and were impeding the water flow. If he hadn't done so last night our patio immediately outside the back door would have been flooded. I've also written to the local council who are claiming that building work, alterations to the pipework, change in ownership and land division mean that they are not responsible! As you can imagine I've tried to sort things amicably until now but after fighting since 2017 I am no longer in the mood to sit back and do nothing. It's not been a good day for me personally either. I spoke with my GP earlier and he has said that my second blood test is fine BUT I still need to take the Metformin. He doesn't think my cholesterol and stress levels have any bearing on my blood test results and that diet will not reverse the problem. My Dr granddaughter thought my medical problems were the cause of my pre diabetes. I'm totally confused now. I'm going to think on things before embarking on the tablets. Added to the above, OH is being moved to the Community Hospital at St Austell this afternoon. This is about 12 miles away but I'm hoping the ward will be quieter and he will get more personal care than in the acute hospital where staff are rushed off their feet and just don't have time to talk to individual patients in a meaningful way. Sorry to be all "me, me, me" - I'll try harder tomorrow Going to have a relaxing evening (will catch up with Strictly which I missed at the weekend) as son is going with daughter to watch grandson play football - if the match isn't called off due to a waterlogged pitch!! Take care all.

Good Moaning all, Iris, does moving O H to another Hospital, make things easier for you, have no Idea about Mileage, as never driven a Car, but being a smaller Hospital things should be less frantic, but is it nearer? Hope things improve anyway, sending Hugs to you. Hope you don't mind, but have sent a Card for your OH. You don't need all this hassle with the Neighbour, grrrrrrr. Looks like another lovely Morning, but by gum, is it cold! Had to bring my Teddy in beside me for extra warmth! On one of my Forums, was a Picture of a Stone Hot Water Bottle, and asking if anybody knew what it was, well, a great comfort in the cold Winter Nights, but jings they were heavy! I hope I do not get any Visitors today, as want to make a start on my Xmas Cards, but know am being optimistic, but hey, might squeeze a couple of Hours in, know my two eldest are coming this Morning, but they won't stop too long, Cheffie Son, will need my empty Dishes, to make me more Dinners, will see what the Day brings. Have a good Day all. bbl Tina. ps, watched part of the 'Bake Off', but gave up half way through, the Bakes are so unrealistic, nothing like the original Series, have several Books from them, but don't think will be buying any from this Series. Loving the Scouse Girl with multi coloured Hair. bye the noo!

Iris, I know what you mean about the monsoon - my goodness, I'm surprised there wasn't some flooding around the West Country! That neighbour of yours is becoming quite the nuisance, isn't he - such a cavalier attitude. He deserves whatever is coming to him. When we need to let off steam, Iris, and if it helps, even if you think it is me, me, me - that doesn't matter, we're here to listen, and often have an opinion! (As I have about Metformin !!) Hope your OH is feeling brighter if he's in a less-stressful place. Yes, Tina, we've noticed the cold has crept in, and it's time for a fire in the hearth. How big is your teddy ?? I remember the china water bottle, and also the copper pan on a long-handle. We tended to have the rubber water-bottles when I was a child (we still have a couple for those really cold nights). Also good for laying a warm bottle on back pain, etc. Your cheffie son is a dream - to have tasty meals at your fingertips - just brilliant. Yesterday I tried to 'sandwich' The Very Hungry Caterpillar panel with wadding and backing - my goodness it is sooo difficult to get the backing to lay flat. I used big grips at the edges to hold it taut, and then sprayed with water-soluble glue to hold it in place, pinned it together, turned it over, and ... you've guessed, it isn't flat. Grrr. So disheartening. At least now, all three quilts are finished, and washed. For the older boys I have a page of stickers with dinosaurs, and for the little 18-month-old girl, a knitted doll; so it is just the wall-hanging to finish. Just!! Hope Max and Chris are well. Have a good afternoon and evening, x

Well, the Boys came, Boys they are not, but both retired, eldest brought me Books he thought I would like, he found in a Charity Shop. Second Son, ie Cheffie retired, picked up my used Dishes to make more Dinners, and also Macaroni Cheese for my Dinner, but have already prepared my Dinner for today, so it went in the Fridge for tomorrow. Hoping things are improving for you Iris, please do share your worries on here, if you want to be more private, you can always Message us individually, sending lots of loving Thoughts your way, virtual Hugs by the Bucketful. Hug, hug, hug! Looking forward to the Birth of another Great Grand Daughter, we have all been worried, as things have not been easy, but only about a Month to go, maybe a bit more. That will be my second Scorpio, and the other little Madam, is her Great Gran o'er the back. I do manage to see them more, as they come up two or three times a Year. We are like the Tribe of Israel, there are so many of us. Going to snatch a couple of hours crafting, Dinner is prepared, and it is lovely and sunny , at the Window. bye the noo.x

Morning all, what a change in the Weather, pouring outside, and very dark. The Rain affects my Knees, so will not feel guilty at sitting at my Crafts today, there is Paper everywhere, as Decoupage has a lot of cutting out, and very small pieces, but it is worth it. Tried everywhere to get Prism Glaze to finish them, but so far no Luck. Hope Son does not turn up to start on the Kitchen, wish I had not asked him to do it now, hate living in a mess. Nothing of any Note to write about, so have a good Day, will be back later, love Tina x

Our slot for the Tesco delivery yesterday was between 11 am and 3pm. We had a phone call first thing to say that it would be between 2pm and 3pm. When the time came and went, we wondered, as last time they were late we'd had a call to say they had a puncture, so understandably late. Not yesterday. So we looked online, and it read "delivered" ! ... err no, it hadn't, but then we had a thought that someone else had a weeks supply of shopping at our expense ! So, OH phoned them. Oh they said, we mark it as delivered when it gets to the time of delivery. So, actually there's no point in putting this on there, as it doesn't mean a thing ! Little pooch is off to the vet's to see if she's healing okay, for a one-week check-up. I will be very glad when that cone comes off, probably as much as she will be ! Have a good day everyone, x

Good day Ladies I hope this finds you well. A busy week, we were travelling back from Southampton on Tuesday and on the A13, going through the road works and just about 50 miles from home when there was a deafening bang right by my right ear to find that something had shattered the driver’s door window. Fortunately we were only about a mile from the Orsett North Service Station. We stopped and called the RAC, or rather we were in the process of phoning the RAC when after about 15 minutes of recorded message an RAC man turned up to sort out the car next door. I said to him that I was trying to phone for help, he had a look and said stop the call because it would come through as a job for him but we would be at the bottom of the list and he would sort us out as soon as the chap next to us was sorted. Which he did, we removed the shattered glass and he suggested either we wait for Autoglass which would maybe add at least 3 or 4 hours to our journey by the time they had obtained a window etc. or we could have a breezy/cold journey home and sort out from the comfort of our own home, no prizes for guessing which we opted for and the car is booked into our local garage for Monday morning. We were lucky that in spite of threatening clouds it remained dry all the way home, phew! Yesterday I had a guitar lesson and went in Anne’s car and last night a meeting, I slept like a log!! The weather today is bright and breezy and this morning we have been and filled up Anne’s car with petrol at our local garage and been to the local builders merchants to get some polythene sheeting to replace the bin bag liner over my window at present, I will probably try and get my car filled as well later. Iris, sounds as though you need to be careful, glad that OH’s situation seems to be more satisfactory, I guess though you are going to need fuel for the car….I have just checked with my step-daughter in Crowlas and she says that the situation there has eased somewhat….hope that is the case for you too. Now, for some lunch, we had bangers and mash last night and I love cold sausages so I am making myself a sausage roll with a leftover. That’s it folks, take care xx Attachments:

Back again, another cold Lunch by choice, my Tomatoes are finished, but gave my Carer Plants, and hers were a bit later, so bless her, she brought me some of her Tomatoes, and had some lovely Chive Cheese, so enjoyed, as I said, another cold Lunch, not quite the same as the hard Orange Balls, sold as Tomatoes, picked so early, they have no time to build up Flavour' You were lucky Chris, that you were not injured, what a gaping Hole, have you any Idea what it might have been? Is that now your last foray before you batten down the Hatches for Winter? Hope your wee Doggie will be drinking now that Collar is off, Val, as you said, you will be as relieved as She is.x Iris, how are things going?, has OH arrived at the other Hospital yet? sending you both virtual Hugs, do hope there is some positive Progress soon.xxx. I did manage to get some Crafting done, but must hunt for the elusive PRISM Glaze, never had any trouble getting it before.Have a nice Afternoon, be back later. love Tina x

Unfortunately the vet says she has to wear a cone for another four weeks ... but, she has given OH a smaller one - we'll see if she manages to bypass the smaller one. The thought that she may try to scratch her eyes, gives me the heebie-jeebies, so will have to watch her. I have just come home from my friend's church service funeral. A very sad time, with lots of tears, but a near-full church. When our children were small, we went on holiday to Minorca/Majorca (can't remember which one as we've been to both). Our son, aged about 4, kept drinking the bottled chocolate milk, and it played havoc with his insides ... . One day, OH took him into the sea to clean him up (!), and, as there was a little café on the beach, I thought it'd be a good idea to get him an egg sandwich in an attempt to settle him. The beach was called Son Bou. What was presented to us was a quick omelette served in a large soft roll. This has become a favourite lunch - a Son Bou sandwich. Sometimes with added cheese. It is also a quick fix lunch - takes no time at all to prepare and munch ! OH has been kind enough to supply me with yet another trugful of apples, so I'd best get onto it. Oh Chris, judging by your photo of the window, it looks like it could have been a pellet, or a stone - there is a definite hole surrounded by rays of cracks. But if it was a passing motorist's wheel throwing up a stone, it wouldn't have hit enough to break it, so to me it looks more like a pellet. Ages ago, I needed a small part of a car, and OH sent me to a breaker's yard to see if they were breaking a car like mine, and on the way in, my car was hit with three pellets. Luckily at that time I was driving a car like a Range Rover (it wasn't one, but like it), so I was sitting slightly higher than in a regular car, but the pellets hit the top of the bonnet - I just wonder whether it would've been me if I'd been in a car. When I got closer - it was three small children playing with these guns !! Tina, recently I have bought the Philadelphia cheese with chives - rather nice on Ryvita's, with the home-grown tomatoes and a big cup of tea. Have a good afternoon everyone, x .

Morning all, it is all go this Morning, as Son is coming to wash the Kitchen Walls down, well, gives me an excuse to sit crafting, so not complaining. Managed to track down the elusive Prism Glaze, not in the same Jar, but hopefully, it will be the same. Started buying in the little'uns Xmas Presents, most of them will be Craft orientated, except my only Girl, who loves 'Jools', but could get her something to make her own. Nothing of any note to impart, so will awa to get dressed and make a start, on whatever needs making a start on! Raining, and bursts of Sun here, be back later, have a good Day all, love Tina x

Good morning Ladies and this is a very grey morning, mizzle in the air with rain expected later.
I re-taped my window yesterday afternoon with clear polythene and as our local garage had just had a delivery of fuel went up there and filled up, that would be a pretty normal activity for me but after the excitement earlier in the week it was a bit of an adventure. The window is being repaired by the garage on Monday but I have agreed to take it in this afternoon so it can stay under cover over the w/e and be there ready for them to start early on Monday.
We are going up to Stoke on Trent next Friday as my cousin was one of the early victims of Covid and his memorial service is next weekend so we have added a couple of extra days so we can do a bit of tourist stuff, like we are going to go to The Middleport Pottery where the Great Pottery Throwdown program was filmed (at least the 1st 3 series were). Stoke was my father’s home town and as my surname is Burslem (one of Arnold Bennet’s 5 Towns) and Middleport is located in Burslem it seems quite appropriate to go there and we are looking forward to it. We are stopping overnight at Trentham Gardens Premier Inn which is another interesting location, and if the weather is half decent we can enjoy an autumnal walk round there, otherwise there is also a retail area there too!!
Val, I prefer to believe it was a brick or some-such rather than think some little devil took a pot-shot however it was Essex!!
Tina we are not quite battened down for the winter and when we get back from Stoke, if the weather allows, we hope to have 2 or 3 days up in Sandringham and environs or maybe even down on the south coast in the motorhome before winterising her. I think then we may be settled until going down to Cornwall for the Christmas period although Head Office (Anne) does change her mind from time to time!
Ah, I see the rain has arrived in all its glory. I will be off to Tesco in a bit.
That’s it, I hope this finds you well, please take care xx

Afternoon all. After a very wet couple of days today has been gloriously sunny but with a bit of a biting chill in the wind. Still, I'll take that over wet weather.
Tina, I hope you manage to do your longstitch. It's lovely to have a variety of hobbies don't you think, because if you get a bit bored with one you can move on to another for a bit. Variety is the spice of life as they say, though not sure they had hobbies in mind! You are so lucky to have gourmet home made meals on wheels. You must be a lovely mum to be so spoilt. I agree with you about the male dance in Strictly. It brought tears to my eyes. So beautifully done and not a whiff of camp about it. Just stunning. I know what you mean about Bake Off but I'm still glued to it. I love baking and so love seeing things I could never aspire to. I think the collapsed rocking horse would be closer to my reality!
Crikey Chris, you had a lucky escape. And you experienced the new green version of air conditioning!
My grandma still used a brown crock hot water bottle when I was small. I loved snuggling up with it in bed when I stayed with her. I keep a rubber one to use if necessary. I started using it in France during a very cold winter and remembered then how much I lived a hotty! I can't stand being cold and have get it in use ever since.
Gosh Iris, your neighbours are an absolute pain. I think you've been very patient trying the conciliatory approach for so long. But it's so time consuming, anxiety inducing and frustrating having to go down the legal route particularly with everything else you've got going on at the moment. It sounds good news your husband is moving to the Cottage Hospital. I presume, if it's like ours, there are no A&E cases, just pre-planned admissions which will hopefully mean he gets a more attentive service. I hope it all goes well for you both.
I've started meeting up with friends for the first time in 18 months (apart from best friend) and I was amazed at how much I enjoyed it. Trying to keep journeys to a minimum because our local stations keep running out of fuel, but it's surprising how much we get through with dog walking, numerous visits to M-i-L and taking granddaughter to and from school. Granddaughter is struggling with school this week. I thought it would be different with a grandchild but I seem to worry just as much about her as I did my daughters. Looking forward to Monty tonight.
Have a lovely weekend all. Max

Evening all. Lots going on in greensmallholderland currently! As you can imagine, my life is more mundane. I've hoovered right through today, changed my bed and steam mopped the tiled floors so I'm not traipsing dog hair around the place now that our son has returned home with his pooches. This morning was showery but it brightened up by lunchtime and I've got 2 loads of washing dry on the line. I'll iron tomorrow and hope to clear OH's greenhouse out too. I did mine the other day and pulled up some of OH's runner bean plants which had blown down in the wind. I am pacing myself between jobs and visiting. It only takes me 20 minutes to drive to the small hospital now depending on traffic.
This afternoon OH was the brightest I've seen him since his fall. Unfortunately the night before last he fell again whilst trying to walk to the bathroom in his bay. After examining him the medics decided that he had not damaged himself but his blood pressure was low which caused him to collapse. So today he has taken it easy - not even dressed or shaved! - but if he needs rest to recover then so be it. The staff in this hospital are so kind and caring and the atmosphere is calm and quiet. It's going to be a long slow job for OH to regain his mobility. I've spoken with the Occupational Therapist and we have worked out what equipment we will need at home and she will visit the house soon to just check things over. OH has also agreed to a 6 week re-ablement package where carers will come in to help him get up and dressed each morning and put him back to bed in the evening. The package will tail off over the weeks as he regains his confidence and settles back to home life. I'm also going to have a Carer's Assessment and be given details of sitters who could come in to give me some respite. Looking more positive by the day now.
You were jolly lucky not to have been hurt, Chris. I bet you are still shaken by the experience.
Hope your little dog is now drinking more, Val. So hard when she'll have the cone on for a long time.
We used to use an old stone hot bottle for a door stop here. It seemed suitable for the cottage. Not sure if it came from OH's or my parents' home originally. We've even got 4 cast iron irons decorating our hearth in the inglenook fireplace along with a couple of lasts which my FiL and my grandfather used to mend shoes on to save money in years gone by.
Going to try to finish watching last week's Strictly before tomorrow's edition and also Gardener's World tonight.
Bye for now.
