Good afternoon Ladies, I hope this finds you well. Certainly the news from Iris is more optimistic so, we here are keeping our fingers crossed. It was so busy on Saturday that I didn’t have a chance to go up to the church and see the flower festival so before we left yesterday we went and had a look, wow it was lovely and they were serving cream teas too, not that I indulged under Anne’s watchful, some might say dictatorial (not me honest!), eye. I did see one lovely little chap sleeping off what was clearly a heavy weekend and then I spotted another keeping his eye on me (pics attached). We got home sometime around 1:00pm I haven’t had any lunch having had an unfamiliarly large cooked breakfast, a great change from my usual fruit and yoghurt. The hotel was super, it is an old Elizabethan building and in fact the room we slept in is said to be haunted by the ghost of Elizabeth 1st who apparently slept in there….didn’t see any ghosts! Tonight after all that indulgence we are having a vegetarian stir-fry. That’s it, take care xx

Thanks Chris. A very heavy day yesterday. Lovely picture of you and Anne. Sunshine today, so very cheery. We have been defrosting our chest freezer, what a palaver - it has taken some weeks to work our way through everything, but this morning we turned it on again, as we're expecting a Tesco delivery, and I have started to stock up with some meats, fish, etc. That's if there is any left! I am about to sew on the binding to the little baby quilt having finished all the hand-quilting. To hand-quilt is quite a labour of love - very time-consuming, in this case 32 widths of the quilt. But hey, it is now done, so just the label and binding, then I think I will sew on little lace bits'n'pieces - flowers and butterflies, etc. I have offered to our nephew's family to make a memory quilt using his shirts for his daughter, so that when she goes to university, she will go with a little bit of her Dad. My other nephew, his brother, thinks it is a nice idea. We'll see. Not sure what's on the menu today, until it arrives !! (Ha, I do have some pieces of meat and fish in my small house freezer, so not totally out of food !) Anyway, have a good day everyone, x

So sorry to learn your news, Val. Sending virtual hugs at this sad time. Offload if it helps. I certainly find it does. I must be boring everyone by now. Well yesterday's visit to the hospital was disappointing. OH was still breathless and was VERY confused. He had been moved from one side room to another and then into an 8 bed bay by the time I arrived. He is very irritable and ordered me to sit down and do nothing!! He had already phoned me to ask why he was being excluded from a conversation I had with staff and our daughter and SiL outside his bay. He was insistent that the consultant had said he could go home and ordered me to pack his bag! He is obviously delusional so I spoke to the Ward Sister and asked her if he had been tested for a waterworks infection. Apparently the staff had not noticed any of his abberations but she would arrange a urine test. I had to leave slightly early as the physios arrived to get him out of bed for the first time. Just wondering what today will hold, although I've had no strange phone calls yet. Unfortunately my visiting slot is 4-5pm and he'll be tired so I'll have to wait and see. Son is on his way. He's made a diversion to visit our old house and the local village just for old times' sake. He'll probably arrive here when I'm at the hospital but that's OK. He can let himself in and make himself comfortable after his drive. I'm off to take the dog for a walk in our fields then have lunch. Take care all.

Val, I’m so sorry to learn your news. You all must be devastated. Your idea of a memory quilt for his daughter is such a lovely idea and one that she will cherish in years to come.
So sorry you are having such a tough time of it as well, Iris. It’s difficult not to get upset about what’s going on. Do you have an empty field near by you could go and stand in the middle of and have a good old cathartic scream? Hopefully, the numbers of second homers and holiday makers in Cornwall will start to reduce which might ease some of the pressures on your local NHS.
What a lovely photo of you and Anne, Chris. It sounds as though you had a fabulous time.
Sounds as though you’re very busy as usual, Tina. Hope you’re enjoying the last of these lovely late summer days. Looks as though Autumn arrives next week and it’ll be time to get back out the jumpers!
Not much to report - a loaf is in the oven, I’ve just made and eaten Squash and Lentil soup with dried chilli and fennel seeds, which was nice. Good job really as I’ve made 6 portions and only I eat soup! OH is meeting his mum’s social worker at the moment to decide on next steps. Dog’s been walked, so I’ll do a bit of cross stitch whilst I wait for the bread to finish baking. Take care.

Good afternoon Ladies I hope this finds you well.
Special thoughts for you and Iris, Val.
Today it is almost sunny, almost cloudy but very bright. The weather is certainly cooling and it is noticeable how the afternoons are closing earlier. I guess because we are very near the east coast we probably start darkening a little earlier than other parts of the country, particularly down your way iris where I think we may be ½ hour at least ahead of Cornwall.
I spent the morning helping finish clearing the village hall after the weekend; I had asked that they delay from Monday so we could help when we got back.
Tonight I am cooking a lamb casserole and it was put on for a couple of hours first thing this morning and will go on again around 5. I like to give it a few hours on a low heat. I have a cast iron (weighs a tonne) casserole dish and use the hob rather than the oven which is a hangover from when I do a Moroccan meal in a Tagine which won’t fit in the oven and found it so much easier, so now with a heat diffuser I do casseroles the same way.
I have my first of the new term guitar lessons tomorrow so I’ll have an hour or so now practising.
Ah, the sun has come out!!
That’s it. Take care xx

Evening all, had to wait for someone to come and fix the Computer, as it was playing up again. Very sorry to hear your sad News Val, such a young Person too. Sending you virtual Hugs, dear Friend. Hope you have a better Reception, next time you visit your OH Iris, but perhaps it is good that he is fiesty, can't spell it, rather than just lying there, but upsetting for you, nonetheless. Bake Off starts tonight, though don't like it as much as the Original, it is something to watch. Lovely Picture of you and Anne, Chris, nice to see you enjoying yourself. Going to watch Ben Fogle, it will be a repeat , of a Repeat, but still worth watching. Bye the noo. love to all. Tina x

Morning all, a quick Visit this Morning, want to get Soup underway, and a Loaf, only a Packet Mix, always keep One in, sometimes feel, I have to taste real Bread. Have developed a Novel way of kneading, have two Wooden Bread/anything Boards, they are long, not round, sit on my Kitchen Stool, with One end of Board on my Lap, and the other leaning against the Worktop, wedged like that I can Knead for five Minutes, take a break, then give it another five Minutes. I have a top of the Range , Panasonic Bread Maker, sitting in the Cupboard too . Hope things go better today, Iris, and you can have a proper Conversation with your OH. x Hope you are feeling better in yourself, today, Val, thinking of you both.x Is Cross Stitch your main Hobby, Max?, I miss doing it so much, my Bags are full of unfinished pieces, I have not got many Pictures done by myself, every time One of my Sisters came, they would say, can I have that One, but I do have four or five beautiful Pictures, that adorn my Walls, that my Bestie did for me, they are all Faye Whittaker, I love her Paintings of little Children. Better get the Soup started, it is a Soup, and Bread Day. Got a hankering to make a few Drop Scones , as well. Have a good Day, have not forgotten you Chris, lol, bye the noo, Tina x

Morning all,
Thank you all, for your thoughts and good wishes. My nephew was concerned about his health last year and had a full session of tests and scans, etc in October, and he was passed as fully okay. We have been told that he had coronary artery atherosclerosis with ischemic heart disease causing a myocardial infarction. So, clearly his tests were not as fully thorough as they should have been. At 53 years old, he still had a lot of life to live. His Dad, my brother, had all the same symptoms - he also went to the doctor before he died at 37 years old, and the doctor concerned said that he didn't look into these issues as my bro was still young, and this condition usually occurs in older people. I have asked my other nephew to seek help immediately, and he has scheduled an appointment with his GP, and he told me that he will take a full report of his brother's post mortem with him, to ensure that his doctor will look into his situation. This time thoroughly I would hope.
Tina, just like you, I have cross-stitch works unfinished around somewhere, too. We lived in The Netherlands for a few years, and cross-stitch is very popular there, which is where I bought mine. One of them is what they call a bell-pull - about ten inches wide, with six very Dutch 'pictures' - four are complete, one half-finished, and the sixth one not started. Another one of ships, not started. I really do need to get back into them ...
Iris, I hope things are improving with the hospital visits. How is his therapy (getting him to walk) coming along? I can fully understand his need to get home, but from memory of OH's hip ops, they have to ensure he is able to manage walking and going up steps, etc, before they'll let him out.
Max, I will get into making the bread eventually, honest! I hope your OH can sort out things for his Mum, always a worry.
Sadly, Chris, I think the weather is coming to an end where you can sit outside for breakfast. Ha, that was good of the committee to wait until you returned before doing the big clear-up!! That's the problem with always being a willing hand.
Just like Tina, I shall make some more soup today. Every now'n'again, I order a kg of chicken wings - yes, there's just a little meat on each, but it's very tasty - and I bake them painted with some EVOO and herbs, but once finished the stock made from the leftovers is just great, and also a strong basis for our soup.
Anyway, folks, hope you all have a good day, x

Back again, had Soup for Lunch, and so long since I had it, was a greedy Piggy, so no way could I eat a Dinner, will have a something on Toast, probably an Egg, easiest, and my Knees are giving me Gyp, so less I stand on them the better. Been wrapping Birthday Presents, three Birthdays, all close together. Son, said he wanted nothing, but have got him a Football Book, he used to play for the Army, and an Apron with a Slogan on, a funny One, he wears the last One I bought him. Youngest Son, rang me to say he was coming to start painting the Kitchen tomorrow, not very much notice, but expect we will manage. Away to make my Toast thingie. Hope there is some better News soon, Iris x Love to all. Tina x

Afternoon all. Thanks again for your kind words. OH was asleep for most of the hour I was visiting this afternoon but I did speak to the senior nurse for his bay (he's been moved yet again) and he's been put on antibiotics as he has a chest infection. He was very wheezy yesterday so glad the medics are on top of this problem. The whole ward is SO BUSY. I don't envy any of the staff their jobs. The bay where OH is now has 2 nurses permanently based there keeping an eye on 6 patients. They are all in more or less the same age bracket as OH and mostly suffering from confusion and or complicated medical histories. Having a break tonight. Our Dr granddaughter has invited son and I for dinner with her and her partner who are both vegan. I'm looking forward to trying some of their "concoctions"! He partner is a quarter Thai and he is a very good cook but hope if it's curry, then it's not the sort that knocks your socks off Must go as have phone calls etc to make. Bye for now.

Good morning Ladies, I hope this finds you well.
Iris, sounds like things may be improving let’s hope they shift the chest infection quickly. I know when I had my operations on my leg last year at Norfolk & Norwich I was shocked at just how pressurised and busy the ward was, who’d be a nurse…..but thank goodness for them.
The weather this morning is gorgeously bright and sunny, the leaves are turning and it is somewhat cool but hey who’s complaining, Autumn comes.
Today we are off (again) this time down to Portsmouth for 2 nights and then Southampton for 3. We are going to Portsmouth so Anne can have some retail therapy on Gunwharf Quay which will also give me a chance to spend some time checking out headphones in the Bose shop. Then we are off to Southampton to meet up with friends for 3 nights of indulgence and laughter, this group of friends have been that way for now more than 50 years and we are a bit like an extended family.
Yesterday I had my fist guitar lesson of the new term, hopeless.....a lot of practise is needed so will have to get stuck in when we get back.
This morning it is last minute packing etc. hoping to leave here around 11:00 although that will be a moving target.
Take care xx

Morning all, bright here, and a bit sunny, but it changes so quickly, hoping it stays fine, then will pick the last of the Tomatoes, Green or not. Hope your Vegan Meal was tasty, Iris, we have come a long way since Meat, and two Veg. Enjoy your trip to Portsmouth, Chris, place of my Birth, and Home of Grandad, who was also born there, as there is a strong Navel Tradition in our Family. Don't know if there is any Truth in it, but my Grandad, was supposed to be the last Man to be brought ashore in Chains, for striking an Officer. Still looking for the Bits and Pieces that I promised you, Val, will find them, but have so much Stash, and so many Visitors, that is my Excuse anyway. Youngest Son, coming to see what can be done in the Kitchen this Morning, so no cooking or baking, for a Day or two, but plenty of other Things to be done. So on that Note I leave you, Iris, hope your OH is improving. x thinking of you always, and hoping he will soon be at Home again. Chris, enjoy your Trip, and Val, enjoy your Quilting, I was always going to try it, even bought a Kit, but alas, it was One Hobby too many! Have a good Day, be back later. love Tina x

Morning all. A grey, cool, breezy day here but very useable. I'm going to try to get an appointment for our son to visit OH this afternoon but can't get through to the ward yet. If he can go in place of me then I shall spend some time having some retail therapy in a nearby shopping precinct! Just need to get some bits and pieces for the shower cubicle to finish off the new look:) The contractor is here at the moment trying to increase the heat of the water coming through the shower head. At present the hot and cold are not balanced. He's put in reducing valves to decrease the water pressure (which is extremely high here). Just been called to test the temperature of the water and it's just right!
Sorry have to go to fetch my new car but will call back later.

Good morning all and after a drizzly start it is glorious. Although the slight coolness in the breeze is a reminder we’re in the final days of summer! There are carpets of burnished brown leaves on the floor of our local park which we’re crunching through on our morning dog walk, a sure sign Autumn is a hair’s breadth away! Just back from the dentist, thank goodness that’s over for another year
Val, your nephew’s family must feel angry that his heart disease was not picked up during his tests. My dad died unexpectedly of a massive heart attack when he was 47. He w as being treated for indigestion at the time and after his death we were told he was considered too young for investigations into heart disease. I’d hoped that medical knowledge would be light years on from that - it was 44 years ago - but clearly not. So much of medicine is still “guesswork” and comparisons of experience, despite the huge breadth of knowledge the medical profession have. So much still to discover. Hopefully your surviving nephew will be regularly reviewed now.
Enjoy your shopping therapy, Iris, you deserve it! Hopefully the antibiotics clear your husband’s infection quickly. It must seem like 3 steps forward, 1 step back at the moment.
I don’t have a main hobby, as such, Tina. I have a lot of unfinished cross stitch lying around! I like to dip in and out as the mood takes. I tend to binge on a particular craft, then not touch it again for months until the mood takes me again. I have a ukulele which has waited for me to pick up and pluck for 2 years! It’s finding the time to fit it all in!
Have a wonderful break, Chris and hope the weather stays good for you.
Take care all.
