Must tell you, Tina - your card has just been delivered !! It's beautiful, thank you so much! (Yours was posted on 15th December according to the postmark) Interestingly, I had a text from our son this morning, and today he has received our card to him - posted on 18th December. He lives just an hour from us.
Dick and Angel's book often has me laugh out loud, and also sometimes I need to read sections to OH - Dick's expertise is pretty awesome. An engineer, a chef, a military man with training & discipline, and with a real sense of humour. Plus he loves his family. Love 'im. I am finding it hard to put down the book.
Iris, I find using my hairdryer helps with the defrosting, and as you say, it's a job that has to be done, and it's always a feel-good when the door closes when it's clean and defrosted. It sounds like you may have to buy some more yarn, and get those needles clicking again. I saw a lovely pattern for a crocheted blanket, actually very simple, but it was in super bulky - and it was half price, but still would cost about £55 pounds (60 Euros). Making a blanket though is a bit daunting - sometimes boring, too !!
Iris, just heard on the radio that you and we are going up to Tier 3. From midnight tonight. Our online deliveries have been a saviour in these times - and I use antibacterial wipes on all the shopping. So far, so good.
We had an 'if it's' soup for lunch today, but I didn't whizz it, it was just like a minestrone-type soup, then I added a tin of baked beans for some tomato-ey flavour. OH said that with this weather it is very much a soup-type weather currently! We will also be having the last of the gammon tonight, OH said he fancied chips and a fried egg with it!
Aly, hope everything is going well for you.
Have a good evening, x

Good evening everyone, just got Val’s Christmas card with the link to this forum, so I thought I’d register and pop in and say hi. Nice to see some names I remember From the cottage smallholder forum, which is currently under repair and hopefully it will be lovely to connect back up with everyone.

Managed an avatar, but it’s loaded sideways, can’t work out how to fix it, everything loading very slow, so think it’s probably our internet.

Hi Jan, welcome aboard! You are never going to believe this Val, I received your Xmas Card today! You could not make it up! So glad you finally got your Card. Have got 'The Wild Remedy', and will start reading it Tonight, and have sent for the Dick and Angel Book, should get that tomorrow. Thank goodness can justify my spendthrift ways, by the fact that have a few Quid left over from my Birthday Fund. Do any of you remember Dick's first Television Program, at least , the first that I saw, it was a Good Life Program. where he was laying Drains to his Cottage, with two grown up Children, and a lovely blond Wife, wonder what happened there? I got a lovely surprise this Afternoon, when the Post Lady brought me a late Xmas Present, from one of my lovely Grand Daughters, a Crystal Butterfly, on a Stand, with 'Best Nanna', beside it. Am really tired, think it might be the 'flu Jab of yesterday, so don't think there will be much reading done tonight.

Sorry Jan, sounded a bit rude there, but was anxious to tell Val, that I had received her Card, as both our Cards went missing. I received a Card, scraped open, by a Machine. I suppose, with a Cheque still in it. I was a Latecomer to CSH, so I don't remember many People. Would like to know a few Details about you, so that I can respond. Love to all keep safe. Very Special Day coming up, In my Religion, January the first, is the Day we decorate the Altar with fresh Fruit, and Foliage, and usually others bring small Offerings, Instead of Resolutions, we make Determinations, which, are yes, you've guessed it Resolutions, by another Name. Because we can't be together, myself and my Friend, are going to try to connect somehow, wish I had had my new Computer earlier, as Son, is putting Skype, or Zoom on, but he forgot it, today. He had to come over to move the old Washing Machine out, and clean behind it. Am away to my Bed, Night, night. x

Morning ladies,
A beautiful view across to the hills greeted us this morning - even the cotoneaster, this morning, is a beautiful white bush! I have taken some photos, too. I didn't sleep very well last night, so out came my Kindle, that didn't work either. Really strange as the night before I slept like a log - perhaps I slept too long the night before! :-) I have nearly finished the Dick and Angel book - if you have watched the programme, you would know the characters, and Dick is often using his wit to make me laugh out loud - they are hard workers, and complement each other so well.
OH took the car out to test the brakes, and after putting back the old brake pads, it is now working okay. He has made another MOT appointment next week, as he couldn't get the work done before the time ran out for the original appointment! However, I think he is going to get the garage to do the brake pads after the MOT, that way, they can sort out the problem/issue. Trouble is that now, the cars are computerised and there are some things that the average DIY-er just can't fix, without specialised equipment.
We have a Tesco delivery coming this morning - oh, it is so convenient. My problem is always wondering what I've forgotten! :-)
Have a great day folks, x

Morning Lasses, a miserable Morning, melting Snow, and Rain. Read a bit of the Emma Mitchel Book, but could not get in to it. I have no Idea about Depression, and hope I never will have. waiting for the Dick and Angel Book, hope I have more Luck with that. The Washing Machine, arrived very early, and is having it's first run out. Son, brought over more Dinners, including, Macaroni Cheese, and Chilli non Carne, and is now on Desserts. Told him I just like plain Food, not to Cheffy it up. Must clear all my Xmas Papers, before I can start on making Cards to sell, must make that a Determination/Resolution, as it is raising Money for Animals in need, and having Carers, different Ones, they buy them, because I can personalize them, and saves them going to the Shops. Will make another Determination, but that is Secret. Better make a start, have a good Day, or as good as possible. be back later, love Tina x

Morning ladies. What a welcome awaited here too when I pulled back the curtains. A dusting of snow had settled and then we had a hailstorm which turned to sleet. Now the sun is out and melting the evidence. I had a late start so it's now almost time to sort out lunch! One day seems to be rolling into the next. Often have to check what day it is everything is so samey This afternoon OH wants to check his tractor was refilled with antifreeze when it was renovated. He's left it a bit late but the tractor is in a shed and it's not too cold here as yet. Going to start adding items to a shopping list as I notice they are running down in the store cupboard. Daughter has said she will get my shopping if I don't/can't get out which is helpful. Just going to cook bangers and mash tonight. OH will have beans on toast and I'll have scrambled eggs on toast for lunch. Have lots of fresh fruit needs eating so will have some of that to follow. Looking forward to the Zoom quiz tonight. There are 8 households joining in so I foresee some fun ahead. Whatever you are doing, stay safe and enjoy your day.

Tina, I have finished Dick and Angel's book - I couldn't put it down - it made me laugh a lot and could thoroughly understand their highs and lows. A gem of a book, in my opinion. x

Evening Ladies. not sure what I can say that would make you remember me Tina, I was a regular at cottage small holder for a long while, but when it started having glitches I suppose I just got out of the habit. We had snow the other day but not much and for the last couple of days it’s just been very cold and dry with a very sharp frost. if you aren’t connected to me by Facebook you will be unaware, but I have a bad accident in the summer, minor issue really, slipped on spilled yoghurt in Morrison’s supermarket but I smashed my left kneecap in to 6 pieces (landed right on it) and had to be operated on. It’s been a long recovery and although I’m now up walking and recently back to driving, I’m still using a crutch when outside and am pushing myself to go for a walk every day that I’m not at work. Rather frightening when it’s frosty, so scared of falling. I do remember the original dick strawbridge programme, but somehow just can’t get in to the chateau stuff, he seems such a cheery chap and as one of you mentioned, in that original series he had a lovely attractive blond wife and grown up kids and I suppose I wonder what changed in their lives.

Evening all. Just to wish you all a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
Apologies for not acknowledging you earlier, Jan. Sorry to learn of your accident and hope that in 2021 you continue to improve your mobility. It is a shame that CSH fell into abeyance but do hope that it will be up and running again at some point. I miss Fiona's recipes and anecdotes about her life.
When the chateau programme first aired I was not keen as I felt for Dick's ex wife and children. He had made a number of TV programmes with his family here in Cornwall where they bought up an old property and restored the millwheel and generally made it very eco friendly. Then Dick and James, his son travelled around the country cooking up local produce. Suddenly all that ended and Angel was on the scene. However, I have grown to enjoy the chateau series and admire the hard work both Dick and Angel have put into its transformation.

Morning Girls, it is lovely here, but very cold, the Sky is a beautiful Duck Egg Blue, with only One small Cloud . Daughter, is making Dinner, and sending mine up, She missed out on Xmas Dinner, as She was working, so this is the big One! As I said, she came up and went over the whole House, despite my protests, she is quite ruthless, about getting rid of things 'that might come in handy!. She relieved me of three or four unwanted Xmas Presents, to go to a Friend who sells them to raise Money, wait for it, for Dogs whose back Legs are for whatever reason, unable to work. I hate, hate hate, the amount of Toiletries we get as Presents, if I want Soap, I make it ! My Boys did me Proud, and I loved it, my Bird Station, and a big Bag of all sorts of small things, it was just like being a Kid again ! Have to get dressed, but will be back later. love T x

Morning ladies. Happy New Year to all. It's VERY cold here. The hardest frost we've seen in years. Puddles have frozen solid and the pavement was like an ice rink when I went for the paper. At least we have seen some sun but it's making little impression on the ice. Definitely an indoor day, close to the fire. Might have to look out some yarn and get knitting again. OH finished his jigsaw last night so I've folded up the little table he uses.
We did have fun with the Zoom quiz last night. We didn't do too badly considering the younger members had chosen questions about pop music and sport. The teacher in our extended family had even produced a slide show for his quiz questions and answers. Very professional.
Enjoy your roast beef dinner, Jan. I'm not making a celebratory meal today. I cooked extra veg last night so we could have bubble and squeak tonight. Yesterday I made a pressure cooker batch of squash and tomato soup for lunch today. It should also last for tomorrow. I still have three small pumpkins in the utility room which will need using up soon too.
Bye for now.
