Evening folks from a gale and rain lashed SW. I never imagined I would be making soup at the beginning of August but it just seemed right today plus it used up a couple of leeks languishing in the fridge.
I did write a long post last night but I was interrupted and obviously didn't press the Reply button. Very annoying. I have spent the time since I last posted doing all manner of tasks including sorting out our electricity tariff; trying to get some information from Cornwall Council which I could not find on their website - I tried phoning but got no further and this elicited an email from them including a cut and paste copy of what I had already read ; taking OH for his check with the GP to discuss the results of his blood tests and the ordering of some different tests; me having my annual MOT at the surgery (couldn't fix this for the same day as OH's appointment); and completing a task which I've been putting off - making a pattern and sewing a cover for a foam booster cushion for OH's chair in the conservatory.
In addition to making leek and potato soup for lunch, I cooked sausages and veg from the garden for our meal tonight. OH polished off the last slice of bread pudding. He's gone off bread so I had half a loaf leftover - waste not, want not and all that. Last night I chopped up some leftover roast pork and added that to home made sweet and sour sauce and served it with vegetable rice and spring rolls.
Glad you got your internet sorted, Chris but it is a faff reprogramming everything attached to it. I wonder if your local stores will have semolina later in the year. Local Aldi stores often don't have cornflour during the summer. Of course it could well be that semolina is an "old fashioned" ingredient.
Talking of vets' bills, Val, our granddaughter took one of her dogs for a booster jab and check up and was told he needed some dental work which would cost £500 for the op and a couple of hundred more for the anaesthetic, antibiotics etc! Ouch.
I'm off to make a drink now. Early night as I have to get up promptly in the morning in order to get OH ready for his group meeting. Bye for now.

Good afternoon Ladies I hope this finds you well. It has been a better day today, at least only fierce looking clouds but without any rain.
High on my pet hate list is ‘hair cut’ but this morning I was unable to delay any longer with ‘A’ looking eager with the scissors I barely had any choice; so now am well shorn.
We did a little shopping this afternoon, you will be proud of me Val, going round Tesco I found a half leg of English Lamb reduced from £18 to £10. We very rarely, if ever, buy meat from Tesco so just hope it will be OK, at that price reduction I was physically unable to walk past it and it is now in the freezer.
One of the benefits of not having any pets these days is the avoidance of vets bills but frankly if we did have a dog I’d probably take out pet insurance as the costs seem to be getting towards private medical treatment, for which a lot of people have BUPA.
Regarding the Internet, I had a phone call from the service provider yesterday afternoon to say that there may be no need to install the new router, just keep checking it and if by Monday no faults have come to light to save myself the bother and simply return the router to them in their secure packaging and so far, fingers crossed, it seems to be all OK.
Last night’s pork tenderloin was OK., I think when I do it next time I will probably marinade the meat for a few hours, the sauce was really tasty but it hadn’t actually got into the meat. Otherwise I might beat the living daylights out of the pork and do escallops, wiener schnitzel style.
Tonight we are having a chicken curry which ‘A’ is busy with right now, it was ingredients for this that mainly we went shopping for.
Now for an afternoon cup of coffee, please take care xx

Evening all,
Busy busy day today. Cooking day - a batch of bite-size sausage rolls; followed by making a crumble mixture; a lemon cheesecake, and finally two fish pies. The crumble mixture was going to be an apple crumble, but I have decided it will be easier to take the apples and the mixture separately. I can construct it down the week. The fish pie is cod and prawns with peas in a buttery sauce, topped with cheesy mashed potatoes. I made lemon curd to top the cheesecake, which I will do before serving it.
Iris, I can imagine the frustration trying to deal with the Council, and you feel your time is wasted. These larger institutions seem to be good at making it difficult to contact them. But not much else !!
Your granddaughter's vets' bills sound just about the right amount - it was a similar one we were quoted. It feels like a rip-off though, doesn't it!
You mentioned the making of a cushion - remember son asked me to re-cover his director's chair? With black fabric? Once I had finished, I wondered whether to make a small padded cushion to Velcro on to the backrest. I made the mistake of telling son what I had thought about. So he said well, perhaps a regular cushion for the seat for those who are vertically challenged. Looking at the fabric leftover, I had to do a lot of adding on and sewing together to get the right shape, but finally it is made, and I understand this particular fabric is 'waterproof' - though I wouldn't want to test it - the zip is cotton, so that would get soaked!
Chris, once you have had your haircut, don't you feel smarter somehow, I know I do? With pork tenderloin, cutting it into chunky slices is a delicious way of presenting them. Similar to beef fillet, with a rich sauce to accompany it.
It has been a reasonable morning weather-wise, but the rain has settled in now, so I'm not going anywhere at the moment!
Have a good evening all, x

Good morning Ladies I hope this finds you well on what is yet another mixed weather day but with the wind coming from the west it is at least not as ‘fresh’ as of late.
Val I am attaching the recipe which I started with for the tenderloin, as you will see it is sliced, my problem/disappointment was that the lovely flavours of the sauce did not permeate the meat, which is why I am thinking next time I will let it marinade for a while beforehand. Last night’s curry was lovely and tonight, being Friday it will be the usual F & C(alv). ‘A’ usually cooks this dish but I am tempted to cook the fish myself as they are lovely looking pieces of cod.
Today we have tai-chi in Sax at 2:00pm after which I’ll probably grab a short nap, we’ll see.
I’ll pop out in a bit to get ‘A’ her newspaper.
To answer your point about feeling ‘smarter’ after a haircut Val, yes I guess I feel fresher but I just don’t like the experience. It is a good job ‘A’ does it because otherwise I would simply run the clippers through it as there is no way I’d want to go to a barbers.
Bread Pudding Iris, sadly the only time we get to have it is if we are out somewhere. I daren’t make it, nor dare ‘A’ as we’d probably polish off the lot in one sitting (and never walk again!!).
Now for a somewhat late-ish morning coffee. Please take care xx

Good afternoon Ladies, I hope this finds you well. Today it is monsoon county here and is forecast to continue for the rest of the day and possibly tomorrow too. It is 13 degrees and I even have my heating on, albeit on low but needed.
This morning, not being able to do anything outside we decided to go up to Morrisons in Lowestoft and were surprised at how light the traffic was considering this is peak holiday time however it seemed that a lot of other people had made the same decision as Morrisons was very busy.
Last night’s F & C was good all I did was eat, enjoy and help with the washing up.
Tonight I am going to make a mushroom risotto, a new dish for me and one ‘A’ reminded me this morning that we had last year at the Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens near Penzance and were impressed. Not sure if it will be up to that standard, we’ll see but it will be a change from my usual offerings.
I will probably spend the afternoon reading as outside is seriously depressing.
So, short and sweet, please take care xx

Good morning Ladies, I hope this finds you well. It seems almost April like this morning, brilliant sunshine followed by very heavy showers. At 14 degrees and quite breezy, off and on it’s a good looking morning.
My squirrel wars continue, I bought a new feeder with a sealed top so that the perisher couldn’t simply tip it upside down and the seeds flowed out. That worked for 1 day!! He/she has now devised another system where they climb onto the feeder and shake it vigorously horizontally and the seeds flow out from the feed holes that the birds use. I am next going to tie down the bottom of the feeder so he/she cannot tip it about but you’ve got to give it to him/her they are determined.
Last night’s mushroom risotto was passable but I think I was too sparing with the truffle oil...........to be continued at another time. Meanwhile there was some left over and I am going to have that for lunch.
Tonight we are having roast lamb, the half leg I bought at a seriously reduced price in Tesco the other day, which will be interesting because if it works then I will keep my eyes open when we go there.
This afternoon, if the weather settles a bit we’ll go for a walk.
Now for my morning coffee. Please take care xx
Oh and incidentally I have complained again to the forum people, not that they seem to take any notice.

Good morning Ladies, I hope this finds you well, it may be a cool morning at 16 degrees but it is a very good looking one with the sun shining and at 16 degrees the air is lovely and fresh.
I have a zoom meeting this morning with a web designer to talk about our village hall web site, which needs a bit of attention.
Last night’s roast lamb was really good. It was a half leg with the bone still in bought from Tesco at a knockdown price and there is plenty left for shepherd’s pie tonight.
Not sure what the day has in store or how long this zoom meeting will go on for but if the weather stays as it is we’ll no doubt go for a walk after lunch, probably down on the beach.
I am going to finish now as the meeting will be starting in 10 minutes time.
Take care xx

Evening folks. Hope all is well with you. It's been quite depressing weatherwise here since I last posted. The only redeeming feature is that it's not been cold! Here it has varied between, damp, drizzly, wet with the occasional dry and less frequent sunny spells. Such a disappointment for those on holiday here. We have Boardmasters (music and surfing) Festival this weekend when Newquay will be invaded by thousands of extra people. You've guessed, we will be keeping well away.
I think you are quite enjoying trying to outwit your squirrel, Chris Glad you enjoyed your bargain lamb. I shall be cooking liver and onions tomorrow night. Our friendly farmer M delivered me some calves liver this afternoon. Sadly one of his cows broke a leg out in his fields and this couldn't be fixed by the vet so the poor animal was put out of its misery. I haven't cooked liver for years because it contains too much cholesterol for the likes of us (with familial hypercholesterolemia) but once now and again won't hurt.
Off now to make a coffee. Take care.

Good morning Ladies, I hope this finds you well on what here is a bright but somewhat grey morning with the sun up there somewhere. 14 degrees, forecast to rise to the dizzy heights of 21 later.
I guess Iris I am begrudgingly, in a masochistic sort of way, enjoying the squirrel challenge. I have now tied the bottom of the feeder down so he cannot simply horizontally shake it about, next instalment now awaited.
We had salmon and pasta last night and tonight we will be having the remains of the lamb as a shepherd’s pie. In fact on Monday night we had just cold lamb with new potatoes (from Cornwall) and broccoli but there was still plenty left, thus tonight’s plan.
Today is our village coffee morning, we also have our weekly post office this morning too and I am going to return the router that the service provider sent me in case it was needed.
‘A’ will be going to Tai-Chi in Westleton after an early lunch but I have ducked out from Wednesdays completely now, just going on Fridays.
I see we have had a couple more junk entries which I have reported.
Hope you enjoy this evening’s liver and onions Iris, as I have said before liver, a much underrated dish, is a favourite of mine with the obligatory onion gravy, a couple of rashers and some mash mmm.
Now for my morning coffee, please take care xx
