Hi everyone, Tina, you obviously enjoy making scones - I have found that my scones are always a bit short of being perfect - I don't know what I do to make them less successful, but I do have success with bread, so I guess it's the old excuse of having warm hands! I could just eat one of your fruit scones ... Chris, I'm not a particular fan of football but having met Harry Kane, I tend to favour Spurs. His grandmother and my mother were in the same care home, and I really liked his grandmother. Harry is such a nice guy. I must admit that Formula 1 with Verstappen is reminding me very much of the Schumacher era. More than once did I feel that sometimes things occurred because bad play happened at that time, and it seems to me that I'm seeing similar things going on with Verstappen. Max, I see that you mentioned living in France - where in France did you live? Our house, built in 1789 we believe, is in the Charente-Maritime. In UK, we live an hour away from each of our offspring. Daughter 30 miles and along the A4; son 50 miles along the M4. Iris, we seem to be suffering from mould in some plants; and our mini tomatoes and our raspberries have not been as prolific as usual. I defrosted a bag of pork cubes, frozen after one of our big CFC shopping trips to Waitrose. I had some thick leftover barbecue sauce I'd made, so added stock to that as a cooking liquid. I also cut up two large onions, popped them into a cook-in bag and added the pork, and sage and thyme - cooked for two hours. I removed the pork and stir-fried them, and added the liquid in the bag to the stock - my pan was very full. On a low heat, started to reduce the liquid - and then we had a Zoom get-together with son and daughter for over an hour - by then the pan was nicely reduced. Worked perfectly. Served with fine beans and garlic bread - delicious. Tonight we'll have the other half of the dinner. Yum. OH has picked another box of plums, and some apple windfalls, so I guess that's what I'll be doing next ... Have a good evening everyone, x

Morning all. Won't be around much today and maybe the next few days. OH fell heavily last night so rang 999 at 8.20 pm, the ambulance arrived at 7.30 am today. He's been taken into hospital for checks for ? broken hip and the complications of being on the floor for so long. I couldn't go in the ambulance with him so have to ring A&E after 10.30 to find out what's going on. Once I've done that I'm off to bed.
Bye for now.

Morning all, so sorry to hear your news Iris, hope OH does not have a broken Hip, am thinking of you both, and hope he will soon be Home with you.xxx I make Scones so often Val, because, one, I could make them in my Sleep, two, I prefer a fresh Scone, to anything else, need no Recipe, and have yet to meet anyone who does not like them. I lived in Bristol, in the Blitz, Max, in one Night , they razed Hotwells to the Ground, both The Sugar Factory, and the Paper Factory, got direct hits. I also lived at Clifton Heights, with my Gran, for a couple of years. Getting too much for me having two People for any length of time, I was exhausted when they left, yesterday. It is lovely having Visitors, but will try to stagger them without offending anyone. I Crossstitched for years, Max, until my Hands became unable to do it, I do miss it, but still managing to make Cards, from which I get much pleasure. Will be back later. Please let us know how things are, Iris, sending you love and Hugs, Tina.x

Oh Iris - why on earth did you have to wait so long - that is unacceptable. Thinking of you - if there is anything at all that we can do, please don't hesitate to let us know. Just to blow off steam, even. Let's hope it isn't a broken hip, but just bruised. <3 Try to get plenty of rest, I have a feeling you may be needing it. xx

Oh Iris, what a traumatic 24 hours you and your husband have had. I know the NHS is under severe strain, but it's very hard to accept such awful delays as in your case. I hope it hasn't pushed back your husband's recovery and that he's back home with you soon. And don't forget to take care of yourself.
Mum and dad were from Bedminster (Bemmy) and I have loads of very happy memories of staying with my grandma in her terraced house there. Dad was an actor/producer with The Little Theatre in Bristol and so we lived in flats amongst the other actors - Redland and then, when my 3rd sister came along, St Andrews. We moved up to the Midlands when dad decided to leave the theatre after it was taken over by an American company. After he died mum moved back to Bristol and lived in Clifton. My sister lives in Blackwell so between us all we've seen the sights of Bristol!
Today's cloudy but warmer and, yippee, we're promised sun tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
Tina - mum and dad were both evacuated out of Bristol, and mum has very little memory of the blitz there. I saw a programme about it last year I think, which was fascinating but also portrayed the awful reality. I hadn't really realised Bristol was blitzed although the bomb damage must still have been around when I was young.
Brightspark - our house is in Brittany. We bought it primarily because of the numerous links to get back to the UK quickly if we needed to. We've made some lovely friend there and April to October is glorious. However, winters can be verrrrrry long and quiet. OH lived it but I missed our girls too much so we now divide our time between UK and France. Brexit has made us rethink this though so this set up will probably change.
Your pork dish sounds delicious, and I think it would also work with chicken. I'll have to try and remember your recipe.I've got a no knead bread in the oven at the moment and I'll post a photo later if I can work out how to do it. It's a very easy Abel & Cole overnight bread and it works every time.
I didn't get round to cross stitch yesterday, maybe today! I'm in awe of how much you all manage to pack into your days. Take care. Max

Hello again. Many apologies for the typos in my previous post - note to self, must edit!
If anyone's interested, Lucy at Attic 24 has announced her new crochet yuletide blanket. I'm in two minds whether to do it - I'm not sure if it's the colours or the design which is putting me off. Am interested to know what those of you who crochet think.
My easy peasy foolproof bread is out of the oven. I was going to post a photo but can't work out how to do it! If anyone wants the recipe let me know and I'll post it in the recipes. Have a good day all. Max

Hi again, everyone, Iris, any news yet on your OH? How did he fall - tripped or something like that? Don't forget to look after yourself in the meantime. <3 Max - do you prefer Max or Maxine? I have been following Lucy - Attic24, since well before Little B was even a thought - 12 or 13 years I think. I agree with you about the colouring - to me it seems overkill on colour! I made the sweetpea blanket in the 'mirror' colouring, and with the leftover yarns from that made another in slightly different format, using the cosy blanket stitchery. Ha, I have two pouffes that are storage-types, and they are filled with my blankets, as well as a few armchairs with blankets over the back of them - a friend years ago called them 'poorly blankets' for when someone just needed a little warmth! Since starting quilting, I am now collecting those in boxes in my workroom as well as donating to every member of the family !! We've had our French home for 20 years, but we're now of an age where we're finding the maintenance, plus the distance to get there and back is beginning to take its toll, so it is up for sale now. Tina, you are so right about fresh scones - you can't beat them fresh, still slightly warm, and the outside is still a bit crispy, plus the fruit, and/or the plain ones with the jam and cream. Funny thing, whenever we go away with the family, our daughter always gets a large box of Rodda clotted cream. That is a standard for us! Chris, how many teams were in the village quiz - if there were ten teams, then coming third is not so bad, but if there were only three teams...well, enough said! Is it a general knowledge quiz? I marvel at University Challenge contestants - my goodness, I'll be lucky to answer just a couple of the questions! We've had a sunny day, very pleasant in fact. Sausages for dinner tonight, not sure how I shall cook them yet. Have a good evening everyone, x

Good evening all whilst we wait for news from Iris about OH. We think we have a problem here, out in Ruritania, with slow emergency service, it is generally about 45 minutes but overnight sounds a nightmare.
Today has been mixed; around 3:00 it was lovely and sunny and we went out for a walk, in what had been and is now an overcast day as the days draw in ever earlier.
Tonight I have a committee meeting to finalise our actions for the village show day on Saturday so I have had, from the freezer, the remains of the fish pie I made a few days back.
Val, there were 8 teams!!
Now must get my papers together for this evenings meeting.
That’s it, I hope this finds you all well, take care xx

Just popping in before having an early night. Currently OH is still in a part of A&E waiting for an orthopaedic bed to become available. He has broken his hip and will have a hip replacement asap - tomorrow or the next day depending on availability of a bed and surgeon. Going to be a long haul to get mobile again. He will have an epidural rather than full anaesthesia due to his many and complicated medical conditions. Worrying time for an 83 year old. I've had lots of offers of help from friends, neighbours and family so I am blessed in that respect. I've managed a few little naps but kept being wakened by texts, calls etc.
He overbalanced, Val, whilst putting on his work trousers to take up the old floor covering in the bathroom ready for the fitter to come this morning.
I'll keep you posted when I can. Thanks for all your concern and good wishes.

Good Morning all, a lovely Morning here, so hope to get out and get some Bulbs in Today. Sending love and Hugs to you dear Iris, and hope everything goes well for OH, they are so much further advanced now in medical procedures, sure everything will go well.x Bristol, was one of the worse blitzed Cities, Max, because of Filton Aircraft Works, and other heavy Industries. The Bombers came over in Waves, flying low, you could see their Markings. I have to turn off the Television if anything like that comes on. Got my youngest Son coming this Morning, he has taken early Retirement, so is now a Man of Leisure, and not having any Hobbies, think he is finding it difficult adjusting. Tried to get him interested in Gardening, but that was a no ,no, think he got one Cucumber, and a couple of Tomatoes. All he has on his mind, is the Trip to Japan, he has planned for next Year. Daughter, starts her new Job on Monday, hoping she can cope with it, as she is not in the best of Health. Did something with Tomatoes yesterday, roasted them, skinned them, and took 'bits' out, and froze them in the Pots you get bought Desserts in, will do more like that, so have measured Amounts to put into Dishes as, and when I need them. Today, am making Ice Cream Scoops of mashed Potato, to freeze, so when am not so good on my Feet, can take as many as I need out of the Freezer for a Meal. Yes, Max, would like the Recipe for the Bread, think I had it many years ago. must awa and get dressed. have a good Day, love Tina x

Good morning all. And it’s a glorious day! Hooray! Iris - thinking of you and your husband and hoping that, now he’s in hospital, he’s as comfortable as can be expected. I feel for you both, because it’s such an unfortunate way for the accident to happen. I’ve got everything crossed he’ll soon be home with you and his recovery can truly begin. Bright spark - I’m happy with Max or Maxine, although the only person who uses Maxine is Mum when she’s cross with me! I’ve also followed Lucy for years (and felt the same as you about the few negative remarks she got recently during her absence from her blog. Some people are so self-centred and seem to have no appreciation of what others are going through. It was unforgivable in my view, particularly when she has disclosed on a few occasions the ups and downs she experiences with her mental health. Thank goodness it didn’t scare Lucy off). I’ve crocheted a couple of her blankets, but the had problems with a frozen finger for a while. I cross stitched then to give my finger a rest and am now ready to crochet again. I’ve had another look at the blanket today but I’m still not feeling the love. I think you’re right - it’s overkill on the colour. Paperman - hope your committee meeting went well and you didn’t need a ‘Jacky’ to keep you all in line! Tina - I understand how your son feels. OH and I both retired in our 50s (I was 53), and once the initial euphoria wore off we were bored stiff! I think it takes a while to find the hobbies that give that sense of purpose that working gives. Hopefully he’ll find what his are soon and enjoys the journey getting there. Good luck to your daughter for her new job and hope all goes well.
I’m just waiting for our weekly veg box delivery. Our delivery man always arrives 7:00am on the dot. But last week they changed his route and he didn’t get to us until lunchtime. We’ll just have to wait and see what time he comes today - he wasn’t happy about it last week! The veg box company supply meat as well. Last week I ordered some venison steaks. When I went to use them I discovered I’d got beef mince instead which I don’t use. I rang the company yesterday and they’ve refunded me the cost of the venison and arranged for me to have a free pack next week. They also told me to gift the mince on - which was lucky as I’d already passed it on to daughter. So a good outcome in the end. I’m looking forward to it next week already.
Have a lovely day all.

Gooday Ladies, I hope this finds you well.
Weather not too bad, warmish almost ‘close’. I had a shingles vaccination this morning, be interesting to see if there is any reaction, not that I am expecting any.
This afternoon we are going for a walk on the beach, at least that is the plan.
Max, you and I share a common problem, I dislike Christopher and much prefer Chris simply because I always associate Christopher with being in trouble with my mother, not that she was that strict. Growing up as I did playing amongst the bomb sites of South London we were always in scrapes or trouble of one kind or another and I guess as long as I was safe she didn’t mind too much.
Tonight we are having a chicken stir-fry.
Iris, hope all is progressing well.
That’s it, take care xx

Morning all. I did post last night but I guess user error and it's not appeared. OH did not have his op yesterday - his INR level was too high. He rang me at 7.15 this morning to say he's going down after lunch today so I assume his bloods are OK now. I am not satisfied with his care thus far. He has been washed this morning for the first time since arriving in hospital. When I visited yesterday afternoon he had asked for his bed to be changed as he'd had a little accident. A nurse promised to come back but went off shift soon afterwards. I had to ask again while I was there and the nurse arrived just as I was leaving after the designated 1 hour visit. I couldn't get to talk to a doctor - I know staff are busy but OH is very weak and breathless and doesn't like to "make a fuss". I shall phone today to get more info. Apparently the Occupational Health lady visited OH but he wasn't able to answer her questions so she's due to phone me. He won't be allowed home until all necessary equipment is in place. He has a treatment escalation plan which was sent in with the ambulance men but no-one seems to realise he hasn't got the capacity to answer all their questions. Even the surgeon gave OH two options for his op and I don't know what those were. The NHS is well and truly broken. Rant over.
Can't visit today so will do some odd jobs. I bought a new electric shaver for OH yesterday as he's not capable of wet shaving whilst lying in bed. When he opened the box the dock required to charge the razor was missing so I'll have to go back to the store for a replacement.
Be back later.

Good morning Ladies, Iris that all sounds a complete nightmare and if it is typical of how Truro hospital are then I am glad Anne & I did not opt to move down there to be close to family……it was a really close run thing as you can imagine.
I hope it sorts itself out for you and OH, I will put more on here later as I am about to start rushing around (well in a Chris sort of way at least!) but having read your post I didn’t want to move on without saying something.
Take great care xx

Morning all, just popped in to see how things were with your OH Iris, but see there is a hold up, so worrying for you, sending Hugs, the only Ones we can, nowadays, told my lot to pat me on the Head when they are leaving, that's close enough! Have got the Carpet Cleaner, coming at twelve, and a Member of the Family, coming to help with moving Things. Must get my Craft Stuff in some sort of Order, so will be back later. Have a good Day. love Tina x
