Last year one of my hives was attacked by the Asian hornet. The remaining bees survived winter but the hive went quiet in March. One warm sunny day I opened the hive and found the wax moth had moved in and no bees had survived. I suspect the queen was killed by the hornets which weakened the colony.normally a healthy colony would see off the wax moth. Today I have one remaining hive which did not swarm this year. I am hoping they still have a queen. I am leaving them to it just observing what they do. There are quite a few bringing in pollen so I am hopeful. I have a good stock of honey to last until I can look for more bees to fill the two empty hives. I love having the bees around.

Yes it is and it is natural as we take it straight from the hive , spin the frames, filter the honey and put it into jars. My garden is planted with lots of lavender, comfrey and borage which bees love. Also Apple , pear and cherry blossom and loads of clover in the fields around us.

Forgot to mention that this spring until now, we have had bees in our nest box - normally the blue-tits nest each year, but not so this year. Apparently they are tree bees. They've gone now though, and I'd like to see inside - a nest-box seems so small for them!
Before we married, and while living at home, my older brother decided he wanted bees, and we did the same, Aly, spun the frames and put the honey into jars. I do love honey, and have honey with my Greek yogurt each evening after dinner.

We had tree bees under the eaves of our house just outside our bedroom window. I loved watching them but as soon as summer started to cool they were off. The queen buries herself in the ground for winter. It is amazing how many types of bees there are.

It reminded me of my childhood because the neighbors had bees and we used to buy honey. I have loved it since childhood, and now I buy it instead of the usual sugar. I want warmth now, and those memories from my childhood.

Yes Dee, we are lucky we have those Memories to sustain us through the dark Days. I love Honey, and am lucky that I can buy it from a Farm not far from me, so those Bees, will definitely have been in my Garden.
