I know it is early, but am looking at Seeds, and making Plans. The Garden is a mess, but Weather not conducive to doing anything at the moment.

I have sorted all the seed packets and bought some fence posts. I want to get the fence built to separate the ducks and geese. Then I want to get the new duck and goose house built.

Made out my first Seed List from my usual Supplier, their Seeds have not gone up this year, which is good, but they are dear enough anyway. List Chilli Pepper. very mild, a cross between a Chilli, and a Sweet Pepper. Lettuce, 'Clarion' a Butterhead, Pot Marigold. Elephant Garlic, Garlic 'Lautrect wight', 2 Packs 'Cambridge', Strawberries, the Ones that I grew last year made a very poor Crop, the Weather might have had something to do with it, so will leave them this year, and hope they do better. That is just the tip of the Iceberg. but will have a load of Seeds to look through, before I spend any more Money. Forgot to add Cress, am out of it, very slow growing this time of year, but should start to speed up a bit now.

Yesterday husband lightly dug over the last bit of my new perennial flower bed and forked in some compost. I sat with a large pad and made a plan of where all the plants will go - I have 20 to go in, 4 we already had and 16 new ones. We'll have to put up a temporary chicken wire fence to keep Betty off until the plants have established and grown a bit, otherwise she'll trample them/eat them! I got a bit sunburnt - amazingly - first bit of warm sunshine for ages!
We had our first radishes of the year with yesterday's lunch, grown in the polytunnel. So lovely and crunchy and peppery, so much nicer than shop bought.

On inspecting the Garden yesterday, will have to prune a lot more Plants, before I can decide what is staying, and what is going. Fuchsias, are the hardiest Plants, does not pay to write them off early, but think I may have lost a couple. Cut away all the Debris from the Herb Planters, plenty of Mint coming on, and Rosemary, Parsley, a bit poor. Want to wait till Iget my new Secateurs, as my old Ones, are not cutting cleanly, despite cleaning and waxing them.

How lovely to have started picking your own already, Sue! We are way behind. OH has rotavated one bed in the polytunnel and planted some seeds but the rest is still waiting for the garden compost mulch to be incorporated. We do have some seedlings come through in the heated trays indoors so we will catch up eventually! Like you, Tina, I have a lot of tidying up to do but it won't get done today!

Peas planted and happily scrambling up the sticks I put in for support. Three big pots filled and flower seeds put in. One small bed seeded with bee friendly flowers. Need to tidy up the polytunnel ready for planting. Tomatoes and cucumber definetly going in as they did so well last year. Might try peppers and chilies too. Yet to decide what to plant in the raised beds this year. Will see what is around in the garden centre.

So much to do don't know where to start. Sent for Rhubarb Crowns, 'Champagne' best Rhubarb have ever tasted. Watched 'Beechgrove Garden', last Night, and they said we were more than a Month behind this Year, so it will be a very short Season, even shorter than usual.

Got the new Strawberries in, but did not stay out long, as it is a biting cold Wind, can't believe it is almost May. My Beans look very sorry for themselves. I have brought my Dahlia Tubers in, and put them in the Airing Cupboard, to try and kick start them into growth.

Still very cold Wind but Sun was warm, potted up my new Rhubarb Crown, never tried Rhubarb in a Pot before, but it is a big Pot, did not have any Manure, of the smelly real kind, so used what I had pelleted Chicken Manure, will keep it well fed, and we will see what we will see! Potted up my lovely Rose I got from Daughter for Mother's Day, it is looking healthy. Still to pot up a couple of small Roses, the Ones that People bring you for wee Mindings, always like to get more from them. Still got to plant my new Strawberries, they are 'Elsanta', always reliable, hopefully they will not mind the Cold, as each One is in it's own Pot, so they will have a good Root Ball. Must remember to feed the Raspberries while am out there, only came in for a Cuppa.

Well done Tina! Surprisingly, after the dark, dismal and freezing cold start, this afternoon turned out really nice, sun shining and the wind dropped - still not exactly warm but a lot better than this morning. So we've been out in the garden again, finished planting up the tubs, just 4 remaining wall baskets to do now. The plants for those have to be hardened off though, so it'll be a couple of weeks before they're done. Other than that, all planting in the front garden has finished. Oh, just remembered, not quite finished, a 6-pack of bedding plants to put in one bed! Neverending

We went to an old-fashioned hardware store this morning (think the Two Ronnies Four Candles/Fork Handles sketch) to get some paraffin for his flame gun. Haven't been able to get it elsewhere. We have been working in the garden most of the rest of the day. He's burnt the weeds off his veg patch and generally been tidying up his area of the garden. I helped him weed around the currant bushes which had become swamped in annual and perennial nasties due to the weather and his illness. Things are looking a lot better now but despite the sun, it's been quite cold in the strong wind. You are way ahead of me Tina and Sue with your planting. We are forecast to have very low temperatures tonight (? frost). I'm still putting seeds in and planning my main bed at the front of the house and my containers.

No frost forecast here, although it'll be just 4 or 5 deg. But our front garden, where all my new plants are, is south facing and sheltered, unlike the back garden which is open and windy (and north facing of course). So the new flowering plants should be ok....nearly all the tubs are close to the house wall too, which keeps them that bit more warm and sheltered.

Been in the Garden best part of the Day, though the Sun has not appeared once, so much for 'our' lovely Weekend. But had things that could not be put off, so now everything has been fed, have gathered all the small Roses, you know the kind you get for Birthdays, Mother's Day etc, and put them into One Pot should make a pretty Show, of course I cut them back to a Bud, all are doing well, amazing how they always survive Winter, I always put them outside in a sheltered Place, when they have finished flowering. Trees fed Bushes fed, and all flowering Pots, also Herbs, have bought a few new Herbs this Winter, well, I say bought, I did, from the Supermarket, then just planted them out after I had used them, took cuttings of my Mint, and that is coming on well. Very pleased with what I have achieved, and also got my Daughter to pull my first Rhubarb, was looking forward to some of it with Custard, but no can do, a Sandwich is all I can manage. Bye the noo Tina x
